Well it took us some time but here we are : a giant step for Paris in terms of well being and caring for the environement. I realized I had never spoken about my favorite place in the world, the ultimate neverland : Paris, and I thought this step would be a perfect pretext.

So here we are ! The velib (velo= bike and liberté=freedom, so cycling in freedom more or less) is a very very cheap (29€ per year) bikes renting system. There are dozens and dozens of bike stations spread in the whole town, with over 10 000 bikes available !! The services opened july the 15th, and I tested straight away and I can tell you you couldn't pass two blocks without crossing a velib station and parisians on their new toy bikes. I'm convinced that now Paris will catch up cities like Amsterdam or Belin and that soon Parisians will be if possible even more thin and good looking because they'll be cycling so much !

The bikes are a bit heavy (22kilos) , but that's because the steel used is done to last :) Apart from being heavy they are enjoyable to use, have outstanding brakes and are satisfyingly confortable.

The first day of velib not all the velib stations were loaded, but with the turnover some empty statiosn were allready beginning to fill up !

Watch this velib station : 35 bikes waiting for you !

Many Parisians were curious about the velib and stopping by to take a look at the bikes.

With whole streets and quarters forbidden to cars on sundays, Paris becomes a wonderful city to discover in velib!!

And on the left the queue for the subway after the fireworks on the Eiffel tower ! Amazing (enlarge the pictures it trully is.
